LCC refuses to answer the MP around speeding issues in the parish

3rd of September, 2025

The MP for Southport, Patrick Hurley, has received a response to the petition which was calling on Lancashire County Council to install speed cameras on Holmeswood Road. The response comes from the newly elected Reform UK Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, which states:

“The data and evidence available to us suggest that Holmeswood Road and the other cited roads are currently operating well in terms of road safety. As such, we would not consider introducing average speed cameras, new crossing points, or traffic calming measures in these locations, at this time. It would be remiss of us to prioritise these locations over others with a poor safety record.”

Further to this, Cllr Goldsworthy advises, “if you write in again about this matter, we will log your correspondence for information, but we will not reply”

This is a very disappointing result following the speeding concerns around Rufford and Holmeswood.

A further strategy will be discussed by the parish council in due course.

We urge anyone with concerns to contact us by emailing: clerk@ruffordandholmeswood-pc.gov.uk

Also please share them with us in person at the next parish council meeting:
